Beats Apple Hi-Fi hands down! And works with iPod shuffle!

| I rarely take the time to review a product, but after what I've been through, Altec Lansing deserves a big thank you from me. This is an amazing iPod speaker system for the price! Believe me, I know. I made the mistake of first buying the highly-advertised Apple Hi-Fi, at $350. Then I brought it home. Yikes! The sound was so muddy that it sounded underwater. No highs, no lows - all the sound was middle range. And you couldn't even adjust the levels! Then I did some online research and found the Altec Lansing In Motion IM7. And it even worked with iPod Shuffle! By the way, I called Apple to double check that Shuffle compatibility. No, they said, the only thing that works with Shuffle is their own Hi-Fi. I had read otherwise online, so I went to the Apple Store to check it out in person. Right on the box, it said the Altec Lansing was compatible with iPod Shuffle, through the audio input (same as the Apple Hi-Fi). I made the exchange, and what a difference! I can now hear strings, tambourines, and other highs - and the bass rattled the windows! All off my little iPod shuffle! (Of course it works with all other iPod models, too, through the built-in dock.) It has more volume than you'll ever need - and unlike the Apple Hi-Fi, the remote lets you adjust Bass and Treble. And here's the kicker - it's $100 less than the Apple Hi-Fi. Don't buy into Apple's marketing campaign - this is the machine to buy! |

| Altec Lansing used to make a product called "The Voice of the Theatre". If you hook up an iM7 to your Macbook Pro, you'll have a great portable theater. BIG voice! |

| The sound that these speakers put out is truly awesome. The built in sub-woofers give real depth to the sound. I love the way that the ipod fits into the system. There is a pop out door just like the old cassette tape decks used to have. I really appreciate the versatility of being able to plug into any auxiliary audio source using the included audio cable. At school, (I am a teacher) I plug into my computer when playing videos for students. Then when I am planning my lessons on my prep period I play songs from my ipod. If I ever needed to use it away from an electrical source, it takes batteries. I like these speakers because I like quality and I like versatility. |

I have listened carefully to many similar units to this one, including those by Bose, Logitech, Klipsch, and other Inmotion units. I believe that the sound of this unit excels them all. It has a powerful amplifier and can produce amazing base as well as clear midranges and highs. It works very well by inserting an iPod or by attaching any other type of player with the included stereo mini cord (which you can also pick up at any Radio Shack if you ever need a shorter or longer one). I do not see how this product could be improved in this price range. It's a little larger than some of the others in this class, but that's part of what helps it produce the deep lows so well. (you simply cannot produce deeper lows convincingly without size) The remote works very well. It can advance (or go backwards) if you are using an iPod, and it controls volume, bass and treble.
This is also one of the few units that can work on batteries if you are wanting to take it somewhere you cannot find a place to plug in.
I like this unit so much I bought a second one for the office after having one in our home for a couple of years now. It is a very fine, ruggedly built, great sounding machine. I do not know why it's not the category killer for this type of product but perhaps they (Inmotion) have not advertised as much as Bose or some of the other companies. |

| This is a great portable system. It has a lot more bass than I expected. We use it to teach dance so need something easy to carry around, but still have good sound quality. We've had this one for 2 and a half years and I'm glad to see it is still on the market. If something happens to this one I will buy another. |

I got a 2 of these a few years back at Costco. The main use for these is for my XM Radio in bedrooms and ocasionally for an Ipod.
This is a great little boombox for the money, sound is excellent. When compared to comparable premium speakers (Bose, Klipsch), I just couldn't justify the higher price. Boombox fills up a room with sound and can get loud enough to satisfy my needs without distorting. The remote works well for all adjustments.
Have not used these as portable speakers, so don't know much about battery life. |
