We've thoroughly enjoyed this product. Bought it for a cross-country road trip with our toddlers. Loved it! The remote made it super easy to control functions from the front seat, the sound quality was good, never had a problem with the connection wires, didn't notice a difference in screen quality, and they stay on even with the car turned off! The only tricky thing is the exact timing and process of button pushing necessary to make the second screen show video. Other than that, what's all the fuss??
Nice for trips

My kids (16 & 12) say this sould get 4 stars. These are nice for long trips, the only problem they had with it is the second screen quality isn't as good as the main one. But overall they are really nice. Very light weight and compact.
mixed bag bot fairly happy

Reviewer: C. Brown,
Just bought this a couple of days ago at Target. It seems to work very well. The most obvious negative thing to me about it is that the second screen is very low quality. This second screen doesn't have a very good picture quality. The only picture adjustment on it is brightness. It also can't be powered from the main unit. It must be powered separately. (the supplied power cord has a splitter). the sound from both screens is very good (for a small portable DVD player.)
My other primary concern is that the main unit doesn't have any but the very basic controls on the unit. Most functions must be done on the remote. I may bring it back just for this. We tend to lose remotes around here.
Other than those two things it seems to be a very nice unit. It doesn't have a very long battery life according to the manual but we used it on battery for almost 2 hours yesterday and it has not run out of power yet.
Build quality and picture quality of the main unit seem good. I don't know how durable the opening and closing function of the DVD will be. (The screen slides down over the DVD carousel. To open it you just push teh screen up. If you don't hold on to it tightly when closing, it will close very abruptly. I wouold expect that little kids opening and closing this over time would break it.)
Target offered a 3 year plan for only 19.00 so I'll have it for at least that long.
Have not tried the mounting cases yet.
Check your cables

If your 2nd screen doesn't work be sure to check the cable between the screens- it only works one way. Reverse it and see if it works.
Had higher hopes

This was my second attempt at purchasing a dual screen car DVD player. I had hoped that it would have turned out better.

The screen had good quality picture and nice sound. The design was sleek and clean. I liked how the DVD loaded, however, not much thought was put into how it would open while it was attached to the seat, as you have to undo the velcro on the top of the pouch and try to slide the screen up.

The secondary screen did not work straight out of the box, so needless to say, I returned this product to the store. I understand that some defective products will make it out the door, and some may break during transport/handling, but I am always leary when I purchase one of those defective products of returning it for another of the same model. I've just had to many experiences receiving a replacement that works great until the warranty runs out. This may not be the case here, but for $200.00, I'm not taking the chance.
Totally unreliable second screen

I purchased this DVD player exactly two months ago in anticipation of several long car trips. After purchasing the unit, I used it around town for a few days before our 8 hour car trip and it worked fine. It also worked fine on the way up to CT from VA, but the second screen quit working on the return trip (not good with my boys ages 5, 3 & 1 in various positions in the van and only one screen available!). So, I called Philips and they quickly shipped me a new second screen. I didn't even have to return the first one. However, on our 7 hour trip from VA to NC we had the same problem with second screen #2 on our return trip home. I just read the other reviews and took our two second screens out to the car to try the cables in various positions (all the way in, part way out, etc.) to no avail. I get sound and the screen is backlit, but black (no picture). Philips is sending me a third second screen. If this fails, they will replace the whole unit. Good customer service, but not at all helpful when stuck on a long road trip with restless little ones and a broken machine. In addition, it is helpful to know what the connections are: There is a dual power connection which has to connect both screens and the two screens have to be connected to each other. This means the screens need to be relatively close to each other and also both need to be close to the power source. Quite an issue if you are trying to put one screen in the third row of a van and the only power source is up front...
